Cacti have become the statement plant to complete any shelf arrangement but if you’re anything like me, you’ll prefer spikier greenery because they don’t need anywhere near as much attention as regular house plants. They’re much harder to kill for a start, okay, not impossible, I’ll admit, there’s been a few fatalities in my house but a little research and they’re pretty low maintenance and add a really interesting touch to any room.
The Abbey Brook Cacti Nursery began in 1947, growing from 6 plants into a 4 acre site based in Darley Dale near Matlock in Derbyshire. With a couple of viewing houses showcasing hundreds of different species of Cacti (the brain looking ones are crazy cool) and a buying house that provides care instructions. Each cactus has been grown with knowledge and care and are surprisingly low priced. I picked up an incredible 2ft Opuntia for only £9!
Something to note: cacti need to be watered once a week between April to September only.
